Newbies buzfar Posted June 23, 2006 Newbies Posted June 23, 2006 I am using FileMaker Pro 7. I have a database now for books. This dbf is used for catalog listings. I am needing to limit the # of characters in the field I have created for the description to 128 characters. Is there a way to do this? Thank you Allene
Fitch Posted June 23, 2006 Posted June 23, 2006 In the field options, select validation and validate by calculation: Length( YourField < 129 ) PS: "Container Fields" is the wrong forum for this. No big deal, it's just you have a better chance of getting help if you use the appropriate category.
John Mark Osborne Posted June 23, 2006 Posted June 23, 2006 No need to use a calculation since there is a validation option that simply requires you to enter the maximum number of characters. Just open Define Database, double-click on the field, switch to the validation tab and locate the maximum characters option.
Fitch Posted June 23, 2006 Posted June 23, 2006 I meant to say that! Wow, even FileMaker 6 has that option. Now excuse me while I consume mass quantities of caffeine.
