Newbies Laura H Posted June 25, 2006 Newbies Posted June 25, 2006 How do I restore the Admin account with no password? I'm using Filemaker Pro 7. I tested a database I created for Web sharing (the guest account didn't work the way I wanted to so I set up two accounts). Now I want to restore it to the original security settings, with no account login required--I'm the only one developing this database and accessing it. I've tried removing all the accounts but Admin in the File Options settings, but nothing works. I've tried to set Admin with no password, but Filemaker prompts me to enter a password for the account, so I have to enter a password to close the security settings options. I've tried unchecking the checkbox for "Login" required, but even with that unchecked, whenever I open the database, I am prompted for an account user name and password.
Steven H. Blackwell Posted June 25, 2006 Posted June 25, 2006 You're headed in the right direction; you've just missed a step most likely. BTW, I don't recommend having a file without a password. But, here goes. In Define Accounts & Privileges Remove the password from the [Full Access] account, so that just the Account name is left. Exit the Define Accounts & Privileges area, and if asked for credentials just enter the Account Name and leave the password blank. It should tell you that you have a security risk, but tell it OK. Then under File Options set the automatic login to be just the Account name with no password. Close the file; thereafter it should open without asking for credentials. Steven
Newbies Laura H Posted June 25, 2006 Author Newbies Posted June 25, 2006 Thanks for the reply. I agree that it's not a good idea to have unrestricted access to a database. I'm learning Filemaker and want to know how to do things, like reset secruity. There may be times when I'll need to know how to reset the security, for a customer, for instance.
Genx Posted June 25, 2006 Posted June 25, 2006 I dunno, you could run a re-login on login if you were really desperate to login to one basic account i.e. Re-Login[] and in there specify account name, password and set that as your file open script.
Marybelle Posted August 15, 2006 Posted August 15, 2006 I think my issue is related to the one above. I tried to set priviledges as well, but they weren't working like I anticipated. I've done the steps above, but I still get a dialog box upon opening FM. How do I get rid of the dialog box (see attachment).
Steven H. Blackwell Posted August 18, 2006 Posted August 18, 2006 How do I get rid of the dialog box (see attachment). By doing what it says to do: open it where it resides, not over a network. You will end up damaging your file. Steven
