AlanP Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 Does anyone know how to create a field (or better yet a calculation) where the last two digits of the current year (e.g. 06) and a set serial number are created. So it would be 06-001 to 06-999 through the year then the next year would go from 07-001 to 07-999 and so forth. I'd be willing to modify the calculation to change the serial number to 001 for the beginning of each year if there is no solution for that. Background: Right now another section is manually creating these record numbers for each projects they do but now would like the record number automated. In addition, because the year has already started months ago, they are already well into the 06-200's so I would like to know if this calculation could be satisfied with the last record number and go from there (I've already made the database and this is the last step) Thanks in advance!
John Mark Osborne Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 I think this will do what you want. It will automatically change the year and reset the serial numbers to 1 the first time you launch the solution in a new year. YEARSERIAL.FP7.zip
AlanP Posted June 28, 2006 Author Posted June 28, 2006 Thanks! Yes this is exactly what I was looking for, however it does not restart at 000/001 at the start of a new year. I reset my terminal clock as directed and in both mine and your solution it went to 07- but just continued in sequence. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks again!
John Mark Osborne Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 It works on my end but I'm on a Mac. It might be you need to quit the entire FileMaker application for the system changes to take place.
AlanP Posted June 29, 2006 Author Posted June 29, 2006 Whoops...forgot about the startup script! It works now! Thanks again for the info! And, yes, I do hear macs work better :)
