Having taken over admin of a particular database the search is on, rather unsuccessfully, for the master password. Are there any methods to find it, change it, reset to a particular default, etc. FMP5 on an NT 40 sp6 server.

The only method is to contact FileMaker, Inc., send them a copy of your files, fill out a legal certification, and wait several weeks for them to extract the password.

Well, let's be precise here. If the files are being served by FIleMAker Server (and that's not clear from the original post) then there will be no passwords--master or otherwise--visible. Shut server down and open these files in FileMaker Pro. If you still need a master password, then you may have to send them into FMI. Or you can guess the password. Who might have the master password?
