George Swisher Posted July 2, 2006 Posted July 2, 2006 I just upgraded my mac 10.4 tiger to 10.4 Server. I used to host FMS 5.5 on the old OS and everything ran great. When I install FMS 5.5 on the new OS, it just keeps trying to start and never does. I also tried just installing FMP 5 and opening the db as a shared file and I can access it with web publishing on the network but can not connect remotely from a client machine running FMP? Any suggestions would be great as I can not find anything on the apple support site relating to FMS not running.
George Swisher Posted July 4, 2006 Author Posted July 4, 2006 event log for the server or FMS. I looked at the actual server and not sure what I am looking for??
Vaughan Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 Open the console and go through the error log. Something similar happened to me some time ago: the same license of FMS was used to install two copies, and the second copy was realising this and refusing to run. The error log has an entry that explicitly explained this.
George Swisher Posted July 5, 2006 Author Posted July 5, 2006 thanks for the tip. this is the error I got but not sure how to address and fix. FileMaker Server quitting! Network initialization failed; an unexpected error occurred. Requested command has not been executed. Any suggestions
George Swisher Posted July 5, 2006 Author Posted July 5, 2006 I also saw this when I opened FMP5 to try and share the actual file. Maybe I have the server set-up incorrectly??? FileMaker Server quitting! Network initialization failed; an unexpected error occurred. Requested command has not been executed.
George Swisher Posted July 5, 2006 Author Posted July 5, 2006 sorry, this is what I saw: Jul 5 16:13:07 SwisherBurgos servermgrd: servermgr_dns: no name available via DNS for 192.168.1.92 Jul 5 16:13:07 SwisherBurgos servermgrd: servermgr_dns: no hostname set and unable to detect via DNS, services may not function properly - use changeip to repair
Don Gabo Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 George, i being getting that error in the mac OS X server running tiger and i wonder if that is the cause of one of the issue we are having. One of our Database crash and i had to recover but it doesn't happen all the time. i am wondering if not having the dns server set u properly might be the cause. victor
Steven H. Blackwell Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 My recommendation to all you fellows is to get off this EOL version and run FileMaker Server 8. This is especially true if you're using newer OS. Steven
