janedoe Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 Hi all, Just wondering if anyone has come across the problem where they can no longer get into the Server Administration Tool? When clicking on the big icon, and clicking on Connect (on localhost), it says Login Failed. It was fine previously, but was moved to a different location (physically), and now we continuously get this error. Any ideas please? Thanks, Diane.
Vaughan Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 Make sure the FMS and Remote Admin Tool are updated to the latest version (at one stage the security model was updated and FMS and the RAT became incompatible).
janedoe Posted July 5, 2006 Author Posted July 5, 2006 Hi, It's running Server8v3... It worked before under this, and no changes were made, except for the physical location of the PC. I read another post from someone who believed the registry keys were corrupted, and they cleaned the registry, and uninstalled/reinstalled. I would like to avoid this if possible, so if anyone has any other ideas please??? Thanks, jd.
Wim Decorte Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 - does the command line SAT fail too? - does it fail from another machine too?
janedoe Posted July 5, 2006 Author Posted July 5, 2006 hi, no joy with fmsadmin.exe, i get error 9 when trying to do anything. i can't actually try it from another PC due in this case - it's for a client and i have limited access. could this be related to the server having 2 network cards? i know earlier versions of fm server weren't real keen on this... tia, jd.
Wim Decorte Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 No, FMS7/8 take full advantage of multiple NICs. Could be that they changed the admin pw? There is a registry that controls this, and if you delete that one key, FMS reverts back to disallow remote admin (local admin only) but with no pw set. It's the AdminAuth key in the FileMaker Server Preferences section of the registry (HKLM hive). But don't mess with the registry if you're not familiar with it...
janedoe Posted July 5, 2006 Author Posted July 5, 2006 If a password had been set wouldn't it prompt for a password on trying to Connect...? I'd rather not mess with the registry, so I can see the need for a reinstall coming on... jd.
janedoe Posted July 6, 2006 Author Posted July 6, 2006 Hello, Well an uninstall/reinstall has fixed the problem. Phew! jd.
