July 6, 200619 yr I'm doing a layout for a List view and I want the top edge of the Footer to seamlessly blend with the body rows. Right now there's a one-pixel-wide black horizontal line where they meet. I managed to accomplish this once, by placing wide rectangles on both the footer and the body and nudging them into some magic position. Today, nudge as I might, I can't find the sweet spot. I've never understood the rules by which FM renders layouts whose parts contain objects that partially extend beyond the boundaries of the part, but I think that is key to solving this problem. Anyone? Thanks, Chap
July 6, 200619 yr Hi While i layout mode, place a white ( if your layout is white) line of 2 pixels over the black line
July 6, 200619 yr Author Ok, I tried that, and it hid the black line in Layout mode, but the line reappeared in Browse mode. Even tried Arrange>Bring to Front on the 2px-wide rectangle but no dice. ??
July 6, 200619 yr Not a rectangle, but a line... BTW: try , with arrow keys, to place that line 1 pixel up or 1 pixel down The trick MUST work, as I have this in most of my files !
July 6, 200619 yr Author Ah - a 2px line works! For the footer: if the Object Size panel says that the footer part's "northern" edge is at X, place the line's northern edge at X+1. (X+2 works, also.) For the header: if the Object Size panel says that the header part's "southern" edge is at X, place the line's southern edge at X. Thank you!
July 6, 200619 yr I use 2 px. rectangles all the time; it doesn't HAVE to be a line. An embossed or engraved rectange (resized to 2 px high) adds a 3D look to the line - normally one must group two (or more) lines (top line a bit lighter) to get a dimensional look but a rectange with Effects works just as well. You can apply various pen and fill colors to change the look of the divider line, adding a professional look.
July 6, 200619 yr Author Yes, I now see that a rectangle works just as well. That made me wonder what my problem was in the beginning. I guess I assumed that if the footer's north edge was, say, 102, the rectangle's northern edge would have to be 102, or perhaps 101 or even 100, but certainly not 103! That doesn't make sense to me. At 103, the rectangle is fully INSIDE the footer part, where I would not have guessed it could influence the rendering of the footer/body interface. Mercy! Is this documented anywhere?
