Secutity / Access Issue...

Featured Replies

Situation:

I have 1 main database that contains all of the actual Data and is the main one for use. As it stands the users can not create or modify layouts in this database. They have requested they be able to create new layouts if needed.

So... I created another database with a serial number type of relation to the main one, so if they create/delete/duplicate a record in the Main DB it will do the same in the other.

They currently have full access in the second DB but not the Main DB.

Problem:

I need to be able to prevent them from creating/deleting/duplicating records in the second DB, and still allow them to be able to create Layouts. If they do create one in the second DB, it will throw the serial numbers off and mess it all up.

If I change the access to not be able to create/delete/duplicate new records, the script in the Main DB that activates the "New Record" Script in the other one does not work.

If I tell FileMaker to only give them "Editing Only" Menu commands, then they can't create a Layout even if they're password allows them too.

Can anyone help?

I believe that you're going to need to use SecureFM to turn off just the "New Record" menu item. There is no ScriptMaker step for going to the Layout Mode.
