Creating alpha range for phone book pages?

Sure would appreciate a tip on the following:

I'm producing an employee directory and want to have the range of last names (A-C, L-M, etc)displayed in the header in the following format:

First letter of last name from the first record on the page, then a hyphen, then first letter of last name of the last record on the page.

I created a field with a calculation of the first letter in each record, but can't figure out how to write the calc to display the range in the header.

Thanks, Rich

A sample file would give us more to go on.

Thanks. Attached is my experimental file. For illustration, I have entered "J-K" directly on the layout, but that is where the calc field would be entered.

I don't know whether it's any help but you can use your AlphaRange field in the header to show the initial of the first record and a reversed copy in the footer to show the initial of the last record on the page. Sort before preview.

see your revised file

I can't work out how to combine the two

Efen: Great idea, and certainly better than some of the manual options I was considering. Appreciate it!
