read hardware-serial-no to create password

hallo world?

is there a chance to read out hardware-serial-numbers (e.g. HDD, Motherboards)? We want to create a serial-number for our own product.

MS is able to do such things under XP and we want to do with FM and Macs!

Any suggestions?

I believe there is a plug-in from David McKee at FileMaker, Inc that does this. You may also be able to extract this using the System Profiler on Mac OS.

I don't have the URL for McKee's site, but maybe I can find it.

The plugin is free. I think his site is called www.protolight.com

It returns the disk serial number and does encryption in any one of 3 or 4 methods.
