January 26, 200223 yr Newbies Hello, We recently upgraded several databases from FileMaker v3.0 to FileMaker v5.0, that were protected with 'master' passwords. Unfortunately the master passwords no longer work in FM 5.0 at master password-level access -- they only work with restricted (although still writable) access. It's as if the v3.0 implementation of 'master password' is not really master password-equivalent in v5.0, but something much weaker. So now we cannot access these databases at the 'master password' level, when we enter what used to be the master password, we just get restricted access. We've tried this on FM 5.0, and FM 5.5, all running Windows NT 4.0. Anyone have any advice?? Thanks in advance, David Tsao
January 26, 200223 yr There is bug in conversion (Read all documents) IMHO in earlier versions of v. 5. Update to latest version. It affects long passwords. Change the password to short one before conversion. Then you can apply the original after successful installation.
January 28, 200223 yr Author Newbies Hi Anatoli, Thank you for your reply, good to know this is a known problem. Our search continues for a workaround, since the databases were upgraded several months ago and many records have been added. Shouldn't be too difficult, hopefully. Regards, David
January 28, 200223 yr You can always convert old databases, export clone and import current records from current database.
January 29, 200223 yr Author Newbies Hi, Yes, we are using FileMaker Pro 5.0v3. Actually I checked the bug fix log for v2, and it did say they fixed the error where passwords > 24 chars or so would become corrupted. This doesn't directly apply to us, since our passwords aren't that long, but we'll accept it as a known bug as it happened to at least two of our databases. Regards, David
