Layout Size : What is optimal

Featured Replies

I had a non-specific question - what is the most common layout size that developers use. I tend to use the FM default - 640x480, and it leaves me cramped for space. Since people have higher resolution monitors now, it is OK to move to 800x600 or even higher? How about full screen layouts? Will customers accept it?

Most of my windows customers seem to want a full screen mode and mac customers like a small window. When developing for mixed OS use, I'm stuck in between.

thanks

I have a mixed environment and you are right that Mac users prefer a smaller window. The basic problem with Windows is the application limits the display area for the files, whereas the Mac presents every file in its own window, so naturally Windows usres want full screen mode so the Dbs are not restricted to the application window.

I face the same problem. My present screen sizes are 540 x 400 (when Macs had 12 inch screens!), but I'm going to move up to 1000 x 750. That way I won't take over the screen and it will fit nicely on 1024 x 768 or 1280 x 1024 and I will keep the 4:3 aspect ratio. I'm tempted to lock out the status panel so I'll get even more display for the files.
