July 18, 200619 yr I'm doing a huge image database that I have to put on the web. There will be over 5,000 pictures and all pictures are about 3 megs each. Does anybody have a template that allows for people to search and label, while at the same time having small enough (size wise) thumbnails to make it run quickly over the web? I'm struggling trying to make one. Any help would be much appreciated.
July 18, 200619 yr Instead of reinventing something that's already available, you could use an open source solution, such as Drupal (www.drupal.org), along with an image module like AcidFree (drupal.org/project/acidfree) or Gallery (gallery.menalto.com), both of which have facilities to generate thumbnails automatically and categorize photos into albums and hierarchies. Although it's outside of the Filemaker realm, this solution on a PHP/MySQL platform is effective and robust. Setup can be a little involved (especially if you have to set up Apache, PHP, and MySQL), but once functional, it's easy to maintain. HTH, David
