Vivian Posted July 24, 2006 Posted July 24, 2006 I'm an extremely new user to FileMaker. How do I Hide/Show a field based upon the value of another field? Can this be done? Thanks!
Ted S Posted July 24, 2006 Posted July 24, 2006 Vivian, I assume you are looking along the lines of: If the user chooses Ice Cream then the Toppings field becomes visible. If they choose Popcorn then the Flavor field becomes visible. If this is what you mean the short answer is no. Filemaker does not have the ability to change the visibility of objects via scripting. However, there are other ways to skin-the-cat but they are going to be workarounds. And often you will find these workarounds to be clever but rather kludgy.
Ender Posted July 24, 2006 Posted July 24, 2006 Mmm, Ice Cream! You're making me hungry, Ted. Funny thing, I was just adding a series of conditional objects today in my latest project (not about Ice Cream and Popcorn, unfortunately). Maybe it's just a clever workaround, but I kind of like the old portal visibility trick for hiding/showing objects based on a field value.
