December 6, 200025 yr Newbies I am using Filemaker 5 and web companion to publish my data on the web. My problem is this: I need different levels of access to my database: some users should browse only, while others should be able to edit, add and delete data. But whenever I operate with a "no password" as well as other passwords, users never get the dialogue box to type in the passwords that will give them a higher level of accessibility. The "no password" seems to dominate. Does anyone know how to solve this? Any help is greatly appreciated. Ida
December 6, 200025 yr The issue isn't so much the existance of the <no password> password, it's more about what privileges have been assigned to it. Set the <no password> password to have browse and export privileges only (export is needed for Web Companion to work). Define at least one other password in the database that allows record create, edit and delete. Now when people use the database, as long as they just browse they won't be asked for a password. But the moment they click on a link or submit button that uses -Edit, -New or -Delete action tags, they'll be asked to authenticate. Note: even though the browser asks for both userid and password, FileMaker Pro Web Companion only authenticates the password. The userid can be left blank or it can have something typed into it, Web Companion doesn't care. It only checks the password.
