I hope this question is for the "portal" subject but Ill ask it also in layout.

I want to create a ledger.

I have 2 logical tables.

Checks Due (amount, date)

Checks Received (amount date)

both of them have foreign key that represent a deal (where the money should be arriving in several payments)

and I want a ledger to be created.

where the lines are sorted by the date order.

and I would have a total down at the bottom (or even a balance field on the right of the line)

can I do it with portal?

can I do it in a report?

should I combine the "receivables" & the "received" tables into one table? I really dont want to do that.

Hi,

It's not necessary to post in two subjects. The Admin will delete one of the posts for you.

In order to get these two tables into one meaningful report or portal, there must be a common ground. A join table holding a reference to each record from each table will do. It is kind of like a homemade index. Is there another table which sets between these two, orders, invoices, etc?

Once this join table is in place then what you want becomes basic reporting.

Tell us a little more about your tables.

Thanks,

Tim

ok I created the join table named "journal"

I will be able to make my report from that table I guess. but still have question about how to connect it to the other 2 tables.

I want that when I enter receivable in the "receivables" table - I will automatically get a record in the journal. but it doesnt work.

(the connection between them should be orderId)

Hi,

A picture is worth a thousand words. Can you attach a sample file? I can get a better idea of your structure if I can see your relationship graph. I have some time tonight to have a look. If you wish you can email to me.

In your post simply click on manage files and attach. A clone will work ok too.

Tim
