Heathbo Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 My question is simple. Can FileMaker 8.5 access a database that is hosted with FileMaker 7? How about the other way around(7 accessing 8.5). If a computer with 7 connects to a database hosted by 8.5, can it use 8.5's features like type ahead and web viewer. I think the answer is no, but I just want to check.
Wim Decorte Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 Yes on both accounts (8.5 can access a file hosted on FMS7, 7 can access a file hosted on FMS8). All client-side features of 8.5 will work in all copies of 8.5 when hosted on FMS7, but not the server-side features (those used in some calcs and finds). The 8.5 features will obviously not be available when FMP7 opens the file (no type ahead, no web viewer,...) There are some knowledge base articles at www.filemaker.com/kb that describe what features will and will not work.
