Sharing a runtime application

My apologies if this has been posted before but I could not find it anywhere.

Is there a way to share a runtime version of an application over a TCP/IP lan. My client wants a simple database application and I'm not sure that it is worth buying a seperate licsense of Filemaker for each machine. I made up a runtime version of the database and put it out on a file server. I created a shortcut to the executable file via a mapped network drive from one of the clients. However, this makes the runtime application run sooooooooo slow that its not worth openeing it. Has anyone ever toyed with what I am trying to do?

Thanks to all in advance!

Runtimes are single user apps and cannot be shared. He'll need another fm license.

[color:red]This is a good way to destroy your data files totally.

As noted, runtime engines are not networkable. The data files are networkable; they must be hosted either by FileMaker Pro or by FileMaker Server. They can then be accessed by FileMaker pro.
