Send Mail in 8.5

Featured Replies

After years happily using FM 4, I've finally moved to FM8.5, largely because it offered the ability to easily generate emails direct from the DB.

The help file suggests that 'generated emails are sent using your default email application'. When I try to make it all happen, there is a subdued 'ping', but nothing appears to be passed to Netscape Mail, my default application. And no email is sent.

I'd be grateful for insight into how to make the handshaking happen.

Thanks,

Peter Mayer

According to a recent post, Netscape mail is going away - but that may not be your problem - I wonder if Netscape Mail has been selected in your "Internet Options" control panel - Programs Tab.

Thanks for the suggestion: alas, it has been selected...

Peter

You should double check the help file to see whether FM supports netscape Mail. At least in FM7, FM was very particular about the maill applications it supported (Windows: Outlook; Mac: Apple Mail & Entourage). This may still be the case.

Hi David,

You've identified the problem. I searched again and found a different help message from those I'd looked at before. The relevant passage is:

"To send mail on Windows, you must have an Internet connection and Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express, or Eudora configured properly. To send mail on Macintosh, you must have Entourage, AppleMail, or Eudora for Macintosh."

Thanks for your help,

Peter
