Newbies martbabs Posted September 29, 2006 Newbies Posted September 29, 2006 Can someone help this novice please! When my users create a new order they are able to select a category for this order from a value list Is there a way to restrict certain users to a limited number of options from the value list when they create a new order Thanks
Genx Posted September 29, 2006 Posted September 29, 2006 You're question isn't really specific enough, how many options is a "limited number", how are they defined, who are they defined by, how many options are appropriate, does the list of accepted categories change?
Newbies martbabs Posted September 29, 2006 Author Newbies Posted September 29, 2006 ok there are 12 options in the value list at this stage I only want to "hide" one option from one user in the group of four users the list is controlled by the administrator and is not editable by users - the contents of the list does not change thanks for your help
Genx Posted September 29, 2006 Posted September 29, 2006 (edited) Alright, Seeing as we can't actually attach different value-lists to a single field, I suggest you look into conditional value lists (3 links are provided below). Once you have a good grasp of the concept, the way i recommend you set it up is by simply using an unstored calc to retrieve the privelege set, in the related table, you need only two fields, one for the privelege set's which must have access, and the second for the value. However, you do not need to make a seperate entry for each and every value list item you want for each privelege set (would result in 47 entries), rather, you can return delimit the privelege sets, meaning that in this case you would only have 12 entries in total. http://www.fmforums.com/forum/showtopic.php?tid/177787 http://www.fmforums.com/forum/showtopic.php?tid/177731 http://fmforums.com/forum/showtopic.php?tid/177620/ Anyway, i'm not great at explaining things in general, so if this isn't clear enough to work out by yourself (and you have to at least try) i'll post you a sample specific to your problem.
