Newbies Dustin B Posted October 13, 2006 Newbies Posted October 13, 2006 Hello, I see there are several topics that are similar but still different. I am looking at the possibility of converting our Mac Filemaker 3 files to PC Filemaker Pro 8.5. The records are basically names, addresses and account numbers. Not sure if this is possible from v3 to 8.5 or even from Mac to PC. Thank you for your help. Dustin
Lee Smith Posted October 13, 2006 Posted October 13, 2006 (edited) The files can be either FileMaker Pro 3, or 4, as they share the same extension. Version 3 can be read on either platform, as it is cross platform compatible. In other words, your version should open a v3 file either by using the Open in the File Menu, or dropping the file on the Application Icon when it is opened. HTH Lee p.s. I forgot to mention that FileMaker will convert it when it opens it, and will ask you if you want to rename the original file. I usually decline this tell it no. Also, it will default to adding the word Converted in the file name, and I usually delete this and the spaces in the name. Your file sounds like it is a Flat File (i.e. only one file), so it may not be necessary to fix broken things such as relationships. However, you should look at the scripts, relationships, etc. and verify this. Edited October 13, 2006 by Guest p.s.
