I made a small helper file, placed it in the same directory as all major data files.

When I start up FM Server, the status goes from Closed to Normal, but when I try to access this file from a client computer, it does not even show up in the list. Actually, the only one that shows up is the FMServer_sample.fp7 file, but maybe (?) this is because all other files are already open at the client PC.

The helper file is completely unlocked, multiuser = ON,

but this user = LOST.

Not very familiar with Windows myself, so maybe I am missing a setting somewhere in the Services, but so far it eludes me completely why that file doesn't simply show up?

Any help appreciated

thanks Steven,

I will check that when I have access to the server again (is not in my office but at client). I assume this is a Server setting indeed and not in the fp7 file itself?

I was hoping it was a server setting as I had checked the file-related option you mentioned.

Just to be sure I checked my file again and on the copy that I had transferred to the server, that was indeed set to OFF.

Just too many files hanging around with the same name (because of FM's strict filenames in scripts) to let this happen.

But thanks for pointing out the obvious to me, it's sometimes the obvious that gives the most headaches.

best regards,

Peter

For the sake of other readers, this issue was finally solved.

It was not the Preference setting for this file which was causing the problem, but the login name.

This file is a small helper file that was unlocked and had the default setting Admin w/o password. When I logged in from a client PC, using my FullAdmin name and PW, the file will simply not show up on the list of files when you try to Open Remote...

as always, there IS an explanation.

but thanks for the help anyway Steven.
