October 18, 200619 yr I am pretty new to FM & need some help. I am building a simple CRM system for a client and want to have a field where users can add private notes (called Jim on 20 October etc) , ie data that is only visible to that specific user. Database is hosted on a filemaker server and will be accessed via instant web publishing. I guess this is a simple thing but so am I :)
October 18, 200619 yr Yes, this is easily done. See the answer I posted earlier today in http://fmforums.com/forum/showtopic.php?tid/181347/ which is in this very same forum. Steven

October 22, 200619 yr Author Hi Steven. It was me - I must have screwed up somewhere navigating around the forum. : Who might you be? You're not the Original Poster who was seeking Record Level Access. There isn't field level access based on a specific user, although I have often been tempted to try to invent such a thing. Thre are probably a couple of workaround ways to do this; however, they are likely real kludges. Still trying to address this issue - I can get as far as auto entering the current user name but thats about it. To be clear then, I want the data in one field on my table to only be visible and editable by the user who entered it; when he goes back there his data is visible, when I go there I see my data etc. I must get myself some training! Many thanks and big respect to your super brain :
October 23, 200619 yr if the info is stored in another table say 'contact history' with a stamp for which user made it.... then create a portal which is filtered to show only data for that user? thats how i'd do it. dont know the calculation off the top of my head
