Multiple Images in a Container

Featured Replies

Question says it. I'd like to be able to have multiple images stored in a container, which the user can then "flip" through, ala iTunes album art.

Is there a way to do this?

A container field can only hold one image or file.

You might use a portal of related records if you wish to have multple container records related to the current record.

I suppose I could use multiple repetitions...?

Hi Jeffrey:

I suppose I could use multiple repetitions...?

... and you'll rue the day you decided to do so. Repeating fields are "attractive" to many users because they don't require relationships (and the learning curve that goes along with them). Sooner or later you'll find the "simple solution" they delivered is exceeded by the drawbacks they present.

Ender's right. Create a relationship that allows multiple images to be linked to the "parent" record. If you're not sure how, we'll be happy to help. There's plenty of good guidance here in the Relationships sub-forum. Let us know.

How can you say that Ender? a container field CAN have repetitions. If it's convenient or not that is something else, but it is NOT true that a container field can hold only one image per record.

On the other hand, if the only use it is going to be given is to flip through different photos what is the problem with using repetitions? DOnt see the need for a related file & portal in THIS particular case... lets not suggest kill a fly with a missil!
