Normand Posted October 20, 2006 Posted October 20, 2006 I'm looking for templates, menus, etc that would allow me to setup a professional looking database, with a very nice user interface, good navigation system and menu structure, without having to re-invent the wheel. Any suggestions of the products I should be considering ? Doesn't necessarily have to be free. For menus, I read good things about Dacons Menu Control. Most important need is probably for templates. (I hope this is the right forum for this question. If not, please tell me where it should go) Thanks.
John Mark Osborne Posted October 20, 2006 Posted October 20, 2006 (edited) If you have FileMaker Pro 8.5 Advanced, there is a feature included called Custom Menus which should be your first consideration for menu control. If it doesn't do what you want, consider third party products. However, I think you will find Custom Menus very versatile. I have a several template sets on my web site with no licensing fees: http://www.databasepros.com/solutions.html Edited October 20, 2006 by Guest
Lee Smith Posted October 20, 2006 Posted October 20, 2006 John Mark Osborne's site is top notch. I have learned so much from his resources, I can't begin to express my graituted for his generiousity to me and others. BIG Thank you John Mark. There is a Theme File and video by Matt Petrowsky Check here that you will want to look at. The File has one layout open, and you can purchase access to the rest of them for a small fee. Also, I received a free theme file for registering my copy of 8.5 Advance, I'm not sure if this was a limited to Advance, or to all, but it was worth the download. I believe that the themes are by Matt also, but they are not a duplicate of his other file. There are some files that have been posted here that you might find helpful, start with this topic Here, They were all done in earlier versions, but they will convert. HTH Lee
Normand Posted October 20, 2006 Author Posted October 20, 2006 Great site! I had actually already bookmarked it when searching for templates before I sent this post. It seemed to contain so much valuable information on many aspects of FM ! Wow ! I did not have time yet to go through it but I will try tonight or tomorrow. I'm using FM 8.5 and will be developping a database that will be used on PC's (xp) and Macs simultaneously on a small network. I'm trying to find a nice "standard" or model that I can base my whole application on, with attractive and well positionned buttons for actions and record movement, and menu guidance. I would prefer not to display the Status area and limit access to the standard FM menu as much as possible, so that the user is "contained" or restricted to the application. The application would also provide all record movement actions (next, previous, delete, find, etc). Would any of your templates provide this, and if so, in which section would I find them ? Thanks
