Ronald_K Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 I know that FM 7 Server is a very processor intensive program. I checked my machine today and FM Server is using 97-98% of the CPU. Is this a correct amount or is this way too high. If it is high, what could be the reason? (usually have 40-70 users on line) Thanks, Ron
Steven H. Blackwell Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 This will vary depending on what the users are doing. Take a look at the Server stats for disk KB per second and cache hits. That will give you a better idea. Steven
Ronald_K Posted October 28, 2006 Author Posted October 28, 2006 Well, I don't know how to interpret these, but this is what I found Network kb/sec Average 5, Peak 626 Disk kb/sec Average 9, peak 15864 Cache hit percent - average and peak were 100 cache unsaved - 14 % Are these reasonable numbers? Thanks Ron
Wim Decorte Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 impossible to say Ron. It depends on the nature of your solution and the hardware involved (server specs, network topology,...) A snapshot like this is also not very relevant. The cache unsaved for instance is very high, but it could be because you've taken the numbers just as FMS was nearing the end of a cache flush cycle. Use the OS features to do some performance monitoring over time (processor, memory, network + de FMS counters) and you'll have a much better idea. If your machine is constantly running at 90% processor speed, you'll need to upgrade that. But it could be that processor is doing that because the disk is getting full and it has trouble updating the proper swap file... lots of variables here. You can narrow it down by using the OS monitoring features.
angelleye Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 Do you happen to have any external applications connecting to FM via ODBC or Custom Web Publishing? See this thread, if so: http://fmforums.com/forum/showtopic.php?tid/180924/tp/3/ I've made some progress in getting FileMaker to acknowledge the problem. They're working on a fix now according to the techs.
