Hello

I've just started using FileMaker 8.5.

I have a field in a table which is a Checkbox set.

When the user enters data - they can select single or multiple items from the set.

For example: Receipt, Invoice, Waybill.

(This checkbox set is populated by another table with up to 100 records)

The trouble I have is when I change to a print layout, the field displays the checkbox set with the selected items as well as the non-selected items - is there any way to hide the items that are not selected?

Hi ctmarket and welcome to the forums!

is there any way to hide the items that are not selected?

Sure, but it won't have the checkboxes displayed next to the values, if that's okay.

It's pretty easy ... for the field on your print layout, change it's Setup from using the checkbox value list to Display as Edit Box. All the values "checked" will appear in the field as a list of values. It's also a good idea to turn off field entry so users can't enter "unexpected" data. Since you've done a good thing by having a layout dedicated for printing, you'll still have the checkbox field on the other layout for users to enter.

Let us know how it turns out. Good luck!

If you want to display the checked items in a comma-separated list rather than a return-separated list, you can use a simple calculation field with the Substitute function to replace the returns with commas:

Substitute(MyField; "¶"; ", ")

Nice touch, John Mark! I think these forums are at their best when not only a solution is provided, but the expansion of a technique is offered. I couldn't think of one at the moment of my last post. Thanks for adding yours. Great assist!

I agree! I always appreciate it when people add on to my posts.

I also think you are doing a fantastic job helping people. You try to help people beyond a few sentences and I think people are really appreciating the extra mile you provide. Keep up the good work!
