Print script step; printer gets changed

Featured Replies

I want a script to print a field to a label printer. Ideally with no dialog, however the 'Print Setup script step' help says this won't work if another printer has been used prior to script execution*. Anyway, I've tried Print Setup (using 'Specify page setup' with settings for the label printer), followed by Print (using 'Specify print options' with settings for the label printer) script steps -- no 'Perform without dialog' for either, yet when I print to another printer (unrelated to this script), then run or check the script, the other printer shows up in the Print script step. (When I check the script, I see the printer being switched back, correctly, to the label printer, in Print Setup.)

FMPA 8.5v1, OS X 10.4.8. I experience the same issue on another machine with FMDev7, 10.4.8, and another Dymo printer (400, instead of a 330, on the first machine). Is this a glitch, or am I doing something wrong? Thanks.

"Print Setup script step

Perform without dialog prevents the Print Setup dialog box from displaying when the script step executes. *If you select Perform without dialog, the output from this script step will be sent to the last specified printer and not the one specified in the Edit Script dialog box.

Select Specify page setup or click Specify to open the Print Setup dialog box and choose page setup options that are stored with the script step."

You can store print options with the script step, or allow the user to enter printing criteria when the step executes.

If the print job needs special page setup options to print correctly, add a Print Setup before the Print step."

Having similar issue with filemaker, apparently FileMaker breaks this.

Our client has set Windowz to default printer A.

In FileMaker scripted to printer A it defualts back to printer B.

Now I know this issue is not the same but I have read about FileMaker, and it would appear that without a Plugin FileMaker is unable to store the selected/pre-selected printer for a print script.

FMButler springs to mind along with some other plugins that will allow you to script a specific printer to print to.

A work around I beleive would be to allow user intervention to manually select the printer at the point they are going to print.
