How can I make Filemaker to do a Shell command in the Terminal.app?

From Filemaker, I've tried the "Send Event" Script step with a "ls -l" shell command to see if it works, but it isn't. There must be a way to do a shell script from Filemaker, without the need to go via AppleScript...?
