wintergreen Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 (edited) it seems FMP won't let me export sound recordings by script. Is that correct? Is there any way of storing a sound recording so it can be exported to a file? Edited November 1, 2006 by Guest
comment Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 Have you tried using the Export Field Contents [] step?
wintergreen Posted November 2, 2006 Author Posted November 2, 2006 Yes, which produces the error "container fields cannot be exported"
comment Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 A little more background would be useful here. What is the source of the recordings, which platform, etc.
wintergreen Posted November 2, 2006 Author Posted November 2, 2006 the platform i've tried this on is windows (I haven't tried it on a mac), and the source is simple- i right click on a container field, select insert sound and then filemaker pops up a sound recorder. Once i've recorded something, if i right-click it, the export function is greyed out, and script steps don't work.
comment Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 Interesting - I get the same result on a Mac. I can, however, copy the recording and paste it into a new player in QuickTime Player - so it should be possible to work something out using AppleScript. I am not sure if regular QT allows paste (I am using QT Pro), but I believe there are other applications that could accept the paste and save it to some standard format.
wintergreen Posted November 2, 2006 Author Posted November 2, 2006 The annoying thing is, I can't find any documentation to suggest that this is the way it should work. I'm developing a runtime solution right now, and I'm going to have to find a method for getting audio out on a windows system.
comment Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 Perhaps you need to consider using a plugin. I don't think FMI ever intended this feature to be used for anything more than a simple voice memo.
