raouls Posted November 9, 2006 Posted November 9, 2006 I was wondering if someone could draw an organizational chart for FM that shows how the different entities (tables, records, etc) are related. I am planning to overhaul my companies database and although I have my ideas about what is best, there are a few different approaches to making Files in this program (e.g. constant vs. cartesian) that I want some different perspectives on. I am very visual so I want to see how the ER designs you guys submit compare and could be used for our company ER Design. THANKS!!
Søren Dyhr Posted November 9, 2006 Posted November 9, 2006 The RD is not an ERD!!!!!! I can only suggest you read Harris thread here: http://network.datatude.net/viewtopic.php?t=107 --sd
Ender Posted November 9, 2006 Posted November 9, 2006 Hi raouls, Although ER Diagrams for similar situations may have common components, each situation is a little different based on the business needs. You haven't given enough details about your requirements for us to offer suggested models. If you can supply the specific types of things being tracked, and how they all relate, we could give you something to go on. Even though the ERD doesn't usually translate directly into FileMaker's Relationship Graph, it's still an important step when designing a structure. Once you understand the ERD, it's just a matter of figuring out what that means in terms of table occurences and relationships in FileMaker.
