Key Conflict on reconnect after connection loss

I connect to FileMaker from a remote location. Occasionally (once a day on average), the connection is lost. If I attempt to reconnect immediately, I get a Key Conflict error, and it says something along the lines of "this key is in use by <>". I have to wait a few minutes for the server to realize the original connection was lost.

Why can't it figure out that I'm connecting from the same computer?? Any way to force it to check? I'm thinking of getting a 10seat license to replace my individual copies. Would that solve my problem (as I assume there's just 1 key that allows 10 connections?).

It's giving you this message because it knows you are connecting with the same license key you used before. The server needs to drop you from its que and stop polling you. I do not think that a VLA license will help you here, although it might. That may be an expensive test.

What is it about your configuration that's causing you to drop connections?

[color:red]And by the way, since you are dropping them, do not be doing work on file schema remotely. You could trash your entire file.

The reason I'm losing the connection is because I'm connecting remotely on DSL and I think there's some noise on the line. Usually when I get disconnected on FileMaker, PPPoE is lost too, but not always, sometimes the net is just really slow temporarily.

I'll try to followup with the ISP, but it only happens a couple times a day so it's hard to troubleshoot. I've already rewired all the phone lines in the building (not very many!).

Your filerts may need replacing. I don't use DSL, so I have little experience troubleshooting it. Several clients with SDSL--the commercial type--reported problems similar to yours. We fixed them by replacing all their filters. Also, they did NOT use their DSL for voice, only for data.
