field referencing in text box

Featured Replies

I know that you can use the following to reference a field in a text box:

<>

and the value of fieldname shows in the text box in Browse mode.

I'm wondering if there is a similar way to put a reference into a field, kind of like what happens in a word processing mail-merge.

What I'm trying to do is 'personalize' the value of a field which is the body of an email that will be 'bulk mailed'. I would like the user to be able to free-format the body of the email, where some of the content is unique to the individual recipient of the email.

For example, assume the email is to confirm appointment schedules for a list of customers - date and time. The date is stored in a field called 'Date' and the time in a field named 'Time' where Date/Time in combination are unique for each customer.

What I would like to allow my users to do is enter something like this into the field which will be the email body:

"We look forward to seeing you on <> at <> to discuss the opportunities we have presented to you"

This format does NOT work, so maybe there is another way to do it.

Any insight would be appreciated.

TIA

There is an old thread on this that has some great solutions:
