Value list calculation problem

Hi,

I am looking for a calculation which can change the text colour in my value list. I only have three possible text drop down options to choose from:

If user selects "optionA" from the drop down,then font colour will be red, if he selects "optionB" then the font colour will be blue etc....

I have tried to use the case function in my auto enter calculated value, but no success. Any help gratefully received.

Simon.

Please post your calculation.

See if this can help.

Comment:

You are the Guru of calculations on this forum and can just come out with the must elegant formulas in no time flat. I just wanted to see what he was trying to accomplish to get an idea of what may be wrong. Sometimes, for the inexperienced like me, it is better to have what I did wrong explained or corrected than just give a simple answer.

Truth be told I didn't have the time to start from scratch, because that would have taken time for me whereas you could probably rip the answer off in 2 minutes. This is a compliment to you not a jab.

Al

Gee thanks. Truth is, I rarely get a sense of purpose out of the posted attempts. What's worse, I find it tends to narrow the focus to fixing the faults, instead of looking at the problem from a fresh perspective. But a fair answer from your POV.

Hi Guys,

Got my auto enter calc sorted: TextField =

Case ( TextField="optionA"; TextColor ( TextField ; RGB ( 0 ; 128 ; 0 ) );

TextField = "optionB";TextColor ( TextField ; RGB ( 255 ; 0 ; 255 ) );

TextField = "optionC"; TextColor ( TextField ; RGB ( 255 ; 102 ; 0 ) ))

optionA - turns the text colour green, optionB turns the colour pink, and optionC to orange.

A little more time at the workings was all that was required. Thanks anyway, Simon.
