Local host only opens if specify IP ... why?

Featured Replies

FMS 8v2 running on a W2003 server, go to "open remote > local hosts" from client and the (local) server only appears "sometimes". When the client connects, it disconnects after a few minutes (the "disconnect when iddle" is not checked neither on the priviledge set nor in the server config) I upgraded to v4, same behaviour.

On the other hand, if instead of going to "local hosts", the local IP (something like 192.168.1.111) is added to "favorites" (or typed directly), the databases open without problem. I didn't have time to wait and see if the clients get disconnected after a while, although it looks fine. I'm keeping my fingers crossed ...

I have to say that I'm pretty bad with networking issues and W2003 configuration, so it probably has something to do with this ... is there any white paper about configuring W2003 for FMS? Could it be that the network connection in the server is configured to get an automatic IP? Is it suppose to work with an assigned one?

is the machine on a different IP range ... this is usually the reason.
