charlesoutcalt Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 Hello Everyone. I have a question that I haven't seen answered, quite, in any of these posts, maybe because it's so basic. . . How secure is my FileMaker file if I assign a hard/impossible to guess user name and password? Am I safe walking around with that file on my laptop? Or should I always place the file on my PGP encrypted partition? I don't need to allow anyone else access to my file: I just want to be able to use it myself, and carry it on my laptop without needing to worry about what will happen if, God forbid, my laptop is stolen or lost. Thanks!
Steven H. Blackwell Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 All sensitive data on a laptop should be placed into an encrypted partition. Just don't forget your password. Steven
charlesoutcalt Posted December 11, 2006 Author Posted December 11, 2006 Thanks for the quick reply. It sounds like you're saying I should not trust the username/password function in FM itself?
Steven H. Blackwell Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 It sounds like you're saying I should not trust the username/password function in FM itself? This applies to allapplications, not jsut to FileMaker Pro. Keep sensitive data at rest in an encrypted partition. Steven
charlesoutcalt Posted December 11, 2006 Author Posted December 11, 2006 Sounds like great advice. Thanks!
