ulna Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 Hi all. I've been searching for answer on this but can't find it. I want to upgrade server 5.5 to 8.5. All the database design, scripts and other conversions aside, is there anything to think about when it comes to the server software upgrade? I want the possibility to switch back to 5.5 if unexpected things starts to happen. Therefore I want to install server 8.5 and turn off server 5.5. If any problem occurs I want to be able to shut down the server 8.5 and restart server 5.5. Is that possible? Regards /U
Steven H. Blackwell Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 These versions use different file formats. And there is no Server 8.5. There is FileMaker Pro 8.5 that uses FileMaker Server 8.0v4. There are huge differences in the .fp5 and the .fp7 formats, the latter encompassing FileMaker Pro 7, FileMaker Pro 8, and FileMaker Pro 8.5. I recommend you review the Mega Tech brief on the FileMaker, Inc. web site: http://www.filemaker.com/support/upgrade/techbriefs.html for this document: http://www.filemaker.com/downloads/pdf/techbrief_fm8_migrtn_found.pdf Also, review the Server Tech Brief found at the same site.
