Newbies jjulie Posted January 2, 2007 Newbies Posted January 2, 2007 Hi, does anyone have a suggestion for a good comprehensive (for beginners) book about Filemaker 8.5? I noticed there aren't that many available yet on Amazon and none of them have reviews yet... Seems like there are several big changes since Filemaker 8, would it even make sense to get a book about that version? Thanks Julie
John Mark Osborne Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 I don't know of any books but my new video covers 8.5 features. In fact, the first 3 chapters are free so you can watch the 8.5 material for free! http://www.databasepros.com/expert.html
Genx Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 You might take a look at: Peachpit Press's FileMaker Pro 8 For Windows and Mac as a begginer book and then as a follow up Que's Special Edition Using FM 8 -- really enjoyed that one.
Genx Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 Oh right, re FM 8.5 ... not really, the changes aren't really huge, it's just the web viewer (which is POTENTIALLY a huge change, and a few minor things) and the use of objects. FM8 essentially functions in exactly the same fashion FM8.5, it will likely only differ at a later stage. I don't recommend you wait for an 8.5 book because while i have seen a couple, nothing "brialliant" will likeyl be published before fm9
