lolitafontaine Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 I have my DB set up as multi-user, and up to this point three of us have been able to share it. We've recently replaced our useless idiot assistant with a delightful qualified assistant, but now, even tho the DB -- from both her computer and mine -- is set up as multi-user, it cannot be shared. Once one of us opens it, anyone else trying to get in will have that dialog box saying that the DB is set as single-user and cannot be shared. We will be moving to FM8 soon, but it will take a while to convert everything, and these DBs need to be shared by all of us at the same time until then. Any suggestions as to what this might be? Thanks!
Søren Dyhr Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 How do you share it hopefully not via OS level filesharing and how many licenses? --sd
lolitafontaine Posted January 5, 2007 Author Posted January 5, 2007 HOw do I find the answers to those questions? I know we're not sharing it entirely properly...
Søren Dyhr Posted January 6, 2007 Posted January 6, 2007 HOw do I find the answers to those questions? How many boxes is standing on the shelves? If it's just one do you need to buy an extra. Try to write down and compare the license numbers in both copies, found in the leftmost menu Filemaker Pro>About...> ...here click on info, and not as much the users name as the long series of chars. I know we're not sharing it entirely properly... If say your new supervisor is drilled in the MS world he/she consider a filemaker solution a "file" which should be shared via filesharing. But it's not so, the ONLY proper way to address a solution is to make one client or server version have it open and other users makes access via "Open remote" ...due to the proprietary tcp/ip protocol filemaker uses. It might even be so that the newcommer have forced your to change habits, founded in an Access'ish prejudice. --sd
