Jalz Posted January 16, 2007 Posted January 16, 2007 Hi Guys, I've downloaded the web viewer charting example from the ileMaker website (resources). This comes with a shockwave, hrml and a filemaker example file. As far as the documentation goes, they all need to be stored in one folder. If I wanted to host teh file on a network, where on earth would I place the shockwave and html files? Would I need to make any alterations to the database to get it to work like file references?

Not really, if you have a look at the calc though, it just uses Get(FilePath) to work out where the file is -- You can put the file anywhere, as long as you re-direct the calc to the location of the file -- So you just have to change that portion to be your network path
Jalz Posted February 2, 2007 Author Posted February 2, 2007 Hi All Can someone help me configure this on my network please? I've spent 4 hours banging my head with this, and after three corrupt copies, its driving me nuts. I've renamed the file chartingtest and its hosted on a Windows 2003 Server. I've also placed both the VW files in the same folder my FileMaker files are stored on the server. The Get (FilePath) command returns : fmnet:/filemaker1/chartingtest.fp7 Ive tried to change this in the calculation (both in the webviewer and the introduction calc)so that it tries and displays fmnet:/filemaker1/WV.html - (which I'm not certain is the right path anyway) So I've also placed the WV files in my extensions folder thinking it may be easier to configure. All my client machines are running Windows XP. Im just interested in getting the Intro database working, to show my boss what the webviewer is capable of. Any help would be much appreciated as always Cheers Jalz
mr_vodka Posted February 2, 2007 Posted February 2, 2007 (edited) Jalz, I have modified the file so that the user can enter a path into a global field. (The swf and html file are in their own zip). You can go about this a few different ways. You can either have a copy of the WV.html and the SWF file on each person's local machine, you can have it on a shared network drive that everyone has access too, or if you have a web engine, you can just reference the web address. Chartingtest.zip Chart_Material.zip Edited June 12, 2007 by Guest Added swf and html file
mr_vodka Posted February 2, 2007 Posted February 2, 2007 Oh and one more thing. I noticed that when I downloaded a copy of the Charting example from FM's website, I could open it up locally, but when I tried to host it on FMS (obviously after changing the sharing settings), the file would not open and refused to be hosted by Server. So, I called FMI about it and they wanted it to be a Tech Support call which they charge for. I told them, why would I be charged when I am calling you to report to you that one of your downloadable files is screwed up. Anyway, after being bounced around from Tech support and other CSRs, I ran a 'Compact File' on it, and then presto, it opens in server. I love how I get a hard time for trying to help them. So for anyone who downloads a copy of the charting example to host on server, you may need to run 'Compact file' prior to hosting.
Genx Posted February 3, 2007 Posted February 3, 2007 I love how I get a hard time for trying to help them. I got the same thing when i explained to them that FileMaker files won't open with FileMaker if you have both 8 and 8.5 installed... Gotta love em for that -- I think they expect everyone that calls them to be a retard that can't work out where the start button is on windows xp let alone use FM.
mr_vodka Posted February 3, 2007 Posted February 3, 2007 Exactly Alex, They kept telling me that it was my problem and that I had to go use their Charged Tech Support Session. I was like, how is a problem on my side if every other file that I host on the same box is fine. Its only YOUR file that wont open. Complete dolts. Then I told him, that I would have reported it as a bug through the FM website but since it doesnt really have to do with FM itself but rather one of their sample files, that I had not yet, and wasnt sure where to report an issue like that. He started getting frustrated with me because he didnt know how to handle it as well and that I wasnt a complete idiot that would just go away. Anyway in the end I reported it through the website anyway after I used the File Compression and described the issue/remedy there. Too bad NOBODY knew what to do with it. I swear, sometimes I wish you could just skip to level 2 support.
Genx Posted February 3, 2007 Posted February 3, 2007 Lol, i've called them like 5 times -- all explaining that they had some bug in the software and i needed a fix for it. I've reproduced problems as requested ( to eliminate corruption ) and somehow they managed to use 15 of the "free" support credits that came with my very first set of FM licenses, all without informing me. Of course thanks to the community here at the forums we know of various work arounds for many of the problems. But to be honest, i'd rather charge my clients 30 bucks less for each FM license than have the complimentary "tech support" call. Level one support are complete morons, about all they know about FM is how to install it, run the recovery command ( which they tell you to do anytime you have a bug complaint ) and open a sample database - a 12 year old could work that out in two minutes. Lol, next time i call, and they put me through to level one support and they ask me for my details so they can steal more of my valuable complimentary "tech support" calls, I'll just say "I don't want to give you my details, you're a moron, put me through to level two support and I'll give them my details". Done Deal : Lol, i know it's not relevant, but just venting.
Jalz Posted February 3, 2007 Author Posted February 3, 2007 Thanks Guys, For both of your help. I'm back at work on Monday, will test your file first thing when I get in Mr_Vodka. Interesting to hear your views on their tech support. I've not called them for over 2 years now, I come to the forums to solve FM related problems as I often find guys like you offer better and real life advice. All the best Jalz
