pyap Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 Hello, We use a button to import a file to a container. We then have a button that uses Open URL[table::container] to open the file. This works perfectly fine when you test it but if you close out of Filemaker Pro and reopen and try clicking the Open URL button you'll find that it doesn't work anymore. Tech support says it's not a supported method to open up a container even though it does work that first time.. So this brings me to my question, is there a way to open up a container in it's native application? Instead of bringing up that save dialog box? Thanks in advance.
Genx Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 Send Event... and then hav the windows filepath. Assuming that you store the file within FileMaker and not just as a file reference... export it to the same place your FileMaker file exists first then you can just use: Substitute( Get(FilePath) ; [Get(FileName) & ".fp7 ; ""] ; [ "file:/" ; "" ] ; ["/" ; "" ] ) & container::field
pyap Posted January 23, 2007 Author Posted January 23, 2007 thanks for the quick response! I'm not sure if I'm following you correctly here. For example, we import a PDF into our documents database. When we clicked on Open URL that first time it just opens the PDF doc in Adobe Acrobat. I was fiddling around with Send Event but it seems to want the filename which I don't have since the document isn't in a path, it's in the database. Thanks again.
Genx Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 To my knowledge, OpenURL was never supported like that (ah... ) basically if they say it's buggy and it won't work... it's probably buggy and it won't work. What you might do instead, and the first part of the suggestion above, is to export the file to the same folder that your FileMaker File is in... and in this case your Export Path would be Substitute( Get(FilePath) ; Get(FileName) & ".fp7 ; "" ) & container::field
