Does anyone know about cross platform font issues?

In particular I am using Verdana, which is a completely cross-platform font.

FINDINGS:

When using sizes under 10 - fonts are fuzzy.

Radio boxes are in different possitions when using the applicaiton cross platform.

Also...

I have seen someone use the "Use System Formats", which is a US/UK format reset. However when set on a text field it smoothes the fonts. Does anyone have any Ideas on how to use this, when it gets greyed out.

Verdana is not completely cross-platform. It's close to this, but it has different interline spacing and in small point sizes Windows may use the bitmap version, which is wider. In effect the lines under Windows have more space between them by default and all test strings are wider.

You can have same line spacing if you make it fixed, e.g. set it to exact number in pixels. Then you'll have to worry only about width. Also there's a quirk: text set in 10 points under Windows is 1 px lower than under Mac OS X; I don't know any workaround.

There's another font that has much less line spacing issues: Tahoma. The width issue remains unsolved, however.

To make matters worse, 8.5 resizes your text boxes, such as labels, to exactly the right size whenever you change them (bold, plain, different size font, etc.). So if I just leave them as is afterwards, some (not all) will be cut off slightly when viewing on a PC. So after finishing off a layout, I select all the labels (usually right-aligned), then drag the size just a couple pixels larger, to the left. Then it's happy cross-platform.
