Hello,

When an user is typing in a text field it automatically displays a carriage return when the user reaches the end of the field.

I have a portal that references a field like that. When you are in Filemaker it displays with the same carriage returns, but when veiwed through IWP, the carriage returns are gone, unless you click in the field.

Is there a way to format a field through a calculation to parse it out, and insert the carriage returns where applicabale?

Hi Gil, I think what you are referring to is "text-wrapping". When you get to the end of a line the text automatically wraps to the next line. There is no carriage return automatically entered into the field.

Correct; "Text Wrapping"

I need to figure out a way to insert carriage returns. In a portal using IWP the Text Wrapping, does not wrap, it is just one long line.

actually it does wrap, you can use the down-arrow key to go to the next line. Two solutions I can see are

1) add vertical scroll bars to the field itself (Layout Mode>right click field>select Field Format>check "include vertical scroll bar").

2) Make the portal size bigger to accomadate the extra lines.

I have done both of your suggestion.

The problem is still that it displays correctly, when you are using Filemaker, but if you view the field through Instant Web Publishing, the text wrap goes away, unless you click in to the field.

When I view through instant web publishing I do not experience any problem. As you can see from the picture I linked to below, even when my cursor is not in the portal field the text wrap is still there.

text wrap viewed through browser

The only other thing I can think of is you have a one line field in FileMaker which will expand when the cursor is placed in it if there is text beyond the viewable area. I have include a picture link below). When viewing through a browser via IWP the field will not expand (but as shown previously, the text wrap is still there). Which leads me back to my original reply showing how to show users the full text within the field.
