Im trying to prevent adding new records in a portal. I though I could do this by creating a privilege set and using the limit option, but to my horror this isn't available under the create option in privilege area.

This is going to be the basis of my invoice file, once its printed, I dont want to be able to alter in any way (master fields as well as portal).

Many Thanks all

I have had a look at your file and if I am correct you are going to have to go about it in a slightly different manner.

You can set a relationship to allow creation of records either on or off. As far as I am aware there is no way of making that conditional.

In order to stick to your general idea what I think I might do is have creation of records switched OFF, put a 3 line portal on your layout along with a 'new line' button.

The script attached to this button would create a new related record ( carrying the key across with a script parameter) but only after it had checked that there were less than 3 related records in existence.

You will also have to do a bit of juggling with layouts to make sure that the user cannot amend the record after the required point.

Thanks Phil,

I was afraid of that answer, ive created a pos system with a similar structure to my example file, where the barcode scanner, scans in the code and FileMaker moves down to the next child record in the portal.

Well I guess back to the drawing board taking your suggestion in mind - shame FM 8.5 doesn't incorporateconditional relationships yet!

Many thanks for your help.
