January 31, 200718 yr I am sure this is a common problem. I exported a calculated field that is set up for 100 repetitions. It is a simple calculation "quantity" x "price" = "total." All of these fields repeat 100 times. I would like to export these to excel. Then change the format to a $ for the price and total fields. When I try to change the format it will not allow me to change it to a $ sign. Because of the repeating values? Any suggestions on how I can fix this?
January 31, 200718 yr Hi there If you import the records into another fm file you will have the option to split the repeating fields into seperate records. I don't know if that would help Phil
January 31, 200718 yr Author Thank you. Are you saying do the export into excel, then import into fm and seperate the records, then export again?
January 31, 200718 yr No, I was merely suggesting that if all you wanted to do was change the currency symbol, the ability to store the repeating values into seperate records might be one option. I am not even 100% sure that it was available in 7 come to think of it. You need to check. Anyways, if it is available, make a copy of your fm file, empty all the records out of it, import your data file (splitting the repeaters) and then substitute the currency symbol for whatever you want Phil
January 31, 200718 yr Just another thought: Are you aware that you can 'attach' the $ symbol to the data for display purposes by selecting the field in question in layout mode and then going to the format>numbers menu. I mention this just in case that is why you are tring to export the data Phil
January 31, 200718 yr Author Yes it is formatted as $ before the export, after the export it is a number with a bunch of squares after it for the repeating fields. Any thoughts?
February 1, 200718 yr Author I just figured out you can export the data as it looks in filemaker to a CSV file. When choosing the fields there is a check box you can use to have the data export as it is formatted. Thank you for your helpl
