February 5, 200718 yr Jazz Params is a FileMaker plugin which allows you to pass and return values between scripts. The plugin also provides a mechanism for local variables within sub-scripts. An essential plugin for the serious developer. Jazz Params has been updated to version 1.5 for Mac (PPC & Intel) and Windows. The version uses the newer (cleaner) FileMaker plugin syntax. Shareware for a single user is a mere $15. Developer licenses available. Visit http://www.jazzmedia.com.au/jazzparams.html for more information and to download and try it out.
February 5, 200718 yr Couldn't you be a little more specific as to where the great revalation might be located for developers already used to native $variables and $$variables, introduced by fm ver. 8.0??? --sd
February 5, 200718 yr Hey - I'm a jazz musician and my license plate is REALJAZ....can I get a discount? I do believe this is covered in 8+.... (not the discount, just the variable passing)...or am I missing something (my wife keeps telling me I am missing something...something about a ship...). Royce
February 6, 200718 yr Author Jazz Params has been around a lot longer than FileMaker 7, so for these people it is an update. It is true that a subset of the functionality is now available in FileMaker. The plugin allows passing multiple parameters between scripts, whereas FileMaker allows only one parameter to be passed, and nothing to be returned. (Let me know if I'm wrong here, as I don't use FileMaker's variables, I use this plugin). As for local variables, they are a by-product of the parameter passing mechanism. They are not the primary purpose of this plugin, but elegantly interwork with the parameter syntax. If you don't need multiple parameters, the new FileMaker variables are a better choice.
February 6, 200718 yr Let me know if I'm wrong here, as I don't use FileMaker's variables, I use this plugin. Read on MacDuff: http://www.filemaker.com/help/Script-Steps4.html passing multiple parameters between scripts, whereas FileMaker allows only one parameter to be passed However are we by now used to either: http://www.fmforums.com/forum/showpost.php?post/187787/ or something like: http://www.briandunning.com/cf/427 --sd
