Newbies jason_111 Posted February 21, 2007 Newbies Posted February 21, 2007 I have my databases configured the way I want them in filemaker pro, but when I copy them into the data directory on the FileMaker server (v8) they don't show up in the list when clients try to access the server. I have tried stopping and restarting the service. What is the correct way to move a database from my workstation to the server?
mr_vodka Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 Did you turn on Sharing? Edit --> Sharing --> FileMaker Network
Newbies jason_111 Posted February 21, 2007 Author Newbies Posted February 21, 2007 That was the problem... Thanks Mr. V!
five_fingers Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 I have a similar problem to jason_111, but I have sharing turned on already. The file won't "open" in FileMaker Server (v8). Any idea what's going on. I've already tried a system restart.
Steven H. Blackwell Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 Check the logs. FIles are probably failing their consistency checks. save a copy as compacted/compressed and use those instead. DO NOT run the maintenance tools or recover the files. Steven
five_fingers Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 Can you futher explain your posted explanation? To clarify the issue: The filemaker file keeps reading "closed" when I try to host it using Filemaker Server. At one point, I changed the name of the file and it did finally list as "open," but still wouldn't show up when clients tried to access it on the server.
mr_vodka Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 What Steven is saying is to open the file back in FM Pro (or Advanced) then save a copy as compacted/compressed. Make sure the new copy has sharing turned on. Then put it back on the server and try to open it for hosting. See this older thread
five_fingers Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 The person that manages our server just informed me that we had exceeded the number of files that we can host at one time. That preference was adjusted for an increased number of files and... bingo. Thanks for your help
Steven H. Blackwell Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 Well, that'll do it every time. Set that number to about 10% over what you expect the number of files to be. But do not set it higher than you need to have it, because it adversely impacts performance. Steven
