A weird problem cropped up:

When users log onto my Mac OS server, they get a "no access" message, but when I log in from the same client machines (happen to be Windows machines) using my administrator password, I can log in.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Jason

Probably means they are using incorrect credentials or that there are no files with their credentials being hosted. What is the exact message? Can you log in to the datbase from their workstation with your credentials?

Also was there a recent change in credentials such that older credentials perhaps stored in the KeyChain are no longer valid?

Can you log in to the datbase from their workstation with your credentials? -- yes

Also was there a recent change in credentials such that older credentials perhaps stored in the KeyChain are no longer valid? -- there was a recent change. One person typed in the wrong password three times. The other was added as a new user. Both are using Sony Vaio's (Windows).

Thank you,

Jason

Their domain log in credentials or internal FileMaker Pro credentials?

The fact that you can log in from their workstations with your credentials indicates that something in the file isn't set correctly.

Are you using Server External Authentication?

I'm sorry that I could not respond sooner. I certainly must be doing something wrong. I can log in from client's workstations with my adminstrator credentials, but clients cannot log in with their own credentials. It's strange that this suddenly started today, as everything has been working fine to this point and nothing has been changed. I work in a university and the server is a dedicated G5 mac in my office. I know nothing about networks, and can only imagine that something was changed at the university's IT level that resulted in this problem. Nevertheless, I am able to log in remotely using my administrator password, so clients can connect to the server.

I'm trying to understand the notion of authenticating accounts via Filemaker vs External Server. I have tried changing one of the client's settings via logging in as the Adminstrator to and going to Define Accounts and Privileges, then changing authentication from Filemaker to External Server, and then going to the computer that hosts the server, navigating to Configure, to Security, and then changing Client Authentication from "Filemaker accounts only" to "Filemaker and External Server Accounts". It's still the case that I can log in from client's workstations with my adminstrator credentials, but clients cannot log in with their own credentials.

What I don't understand is that when I change a clients authentication from Filemaker to External Server, I can no longer define their password in Filermaker. I assumed that this would be available in Server, but I have not figured this out.

I really appreciate any help that is offerred!

Problem solved:

It was just a matter of having a privelege set which did not allow clients (non-administrators) access to a the first layout that the opening script navigates to. This occurred because I rebuilt the first layout.

Thanks for your help

These Accounts are in either Active Directory or Open Directory on the domain controller or are local Server accounts. [color:red]They are not FileMaker Pro accounts. You define them on the Domain Controller or at the OS level on the server.
