lardawge Posted March 13, 2007 Posted March 13, 2007 I need to find out if it is possible to store files (pictures) as references in a central location that every user can see. As well as a way to have individual clients be able to insert those pictures and have them copy to that central location and the location used to serve them up on the web using xslt. Let me know if this is clear. I am familiar with the import command and am using it to insert the pictures into the container at this point... need to know if it is just a simple file path adjustment. If so what is the filepath used for a network volume?
Machi Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 I have the same problem and I just can't figure it out. Have you find a solution for that?
Genx Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 Out of curiosity, why aren't you guys storing within FM Containers?
lardawge Posted April 23, 2007 Author Posted April 23, 2007 Reason I wanted to get away from storing it inside the container is because I have had problems with corruption of the files and bloat due to image size. The work around I created was to have a external data file with just the image files and running them through a photoshop action to get them down to a manageable size before import. I then reference that file in the main database file.
domb Posted May 3, 2007 Posted May 3, 2007 Hello, I wish to know how you can open a pdf file stored in a container field by double-clicking on it, from another filemaker file. I have a filemaker file "patients.fp7" and a filemaker file "files.fp7". In "files.fp7" I store pdfs in container fields. Each one is stored and related to a "patient_id" number from the "patients.fp7" file. In my "patients.fp7" file I can display the related container field. I can actually see the pdf file in the container, but when I double-click on it nothing happens. However, I can right-click on it and export the content anywhere I want. I wish to make a script that will display the file for instance in preview (mac os) or in Acrobat Reader (windows). I looked at script functions but none seems to do this. Can you help me ? Thanks in advance.
Newbies engrtaps Posted May 9, 2007 Newbies Posted May 9, 2007 I don't understand why the 10 jpeg pictures I inserted(100KB each) to 10 different containers per record won't display in preview mode. The hourglass just keeps on running waiting for insert to finish. Even if I insert as reference link. Even if I use FM 7 or 5.5. If I have 500 patients with 10 different pictures(shot from different angles) I want to store(dental). What is the best thing to do to handle the pictures using Filemaker on windows? On a Mac, if I point to jpeg picture I want to insert an error message occurs saying the tiff translator can not read this file. I could go around this problem by doing a copy paste but then that's laborious. Please help.
