March 15, 200718 yr I am trying to configure FM server 8 & WPE on XP SP2 laptop. I have followed all the steps from the documentation earlier and have configured the same on 2 different servers without problem. This time while configuring on XP SP2 laptop it is returning with continuous error. When I access WPE admin console at http://localhost/fmi/config it allows me to enter with the set password. On the very next page when I click on to start configuring and click on next button it returns with an error "You session timed out or was terminated". I tried searching for troubleshooting this on the net but I didn't find anything. Can you please help with the same ASAP? Look forward to hearing from you soon.
March 15, 200718 yr IIRC, Windows XP is [color:red]not a supported OS for FileMaker Server 8 Advanced.. Use Windows Server 2003 SP 1 instead. That's what FileMaker Server is certified against and designed to have supporting it. Steven
March 15, 200718 yr It works for me as a development platform.. i know it's not strictly supported, and i don't expect any support from FMI in general, but i haven't had any issues... yet. The reason i personally do it this way is because i'm no where near an internet connection sometimes (and even when i am, i'm no where near my server) and need access to local versions of the file without risking a crash... the only way i can do that is with server advanced on my laptop so...
March 16, 200718 yr How is running Server Advanced on your laptop going to keep files from crashing? I am missing something here. Steven
March 16, 200718 yr It doesn't, it keeps an unstable link to the file from crashing i.e. if the server is local, there is no need for an internet, or network link to the file... Or if i want to test something i don't need to carry a server box around with me wherever i go. It's only used for mini test purposes during Dev not like i'm deploying it in an office environment and expecting it to work stably. Anyway, I'm not recommending anyone run FMSA on an XP Pro machine, It is not officially supported by any standard... That being said, it runs stably enough for me on my particular laptop, with my particular configuration, and my particular hardware... The services don't crash, everything works as expected and testing files is a LOT easier. I don't expect support from FMI even when I am running this on server 2003 which is 95% of the time so lack of support here doesn't really worry me either.
